Our Worship Styles

Our Saturday Chapel Service - 5:00 P.M.

Our Saturday evening Chapel service is a small, intimate worship service using a traditional Lutheran liturgical format. It provides easy accessibility with no steps or long hallways to negotiate to enter the worship area. Lutheran Book of Worship and With One Voice are the primary worship resources, along with supplemental materials printed in the bulletin in traditional style and language.

Our Sunday Traditional Service - 8:30 A.M.

Our 8:30 AM Sunday worship service is our most traditional liturgical worship offering. As with our Saturday service, Lutheran Book of Worship and With One Voice are the primary worship resources, along with supplemental materials printed in the bulletin in traditional style and language. The large worship space provided by our sanctuary allows for more formality and ceremony than does the simplicity of the chapel. The Senior Choir sings once a month for this service, as does the Matins Choir.

Our Sunday Blended Service - 11:00 A. M.

Our 11:00 AM Sunday worship service is best characterized by the term "blended worship" and includes a children's sermon.  An intentional effort is made to include whenever appropriate both Contemporary Praise & Worship music, as well as Global Music resources from the World Church, in addition to the very best of our own traditional Lutheran liturgical and musical resources. The Senior Choir sings regularly for this service, and a Children’s Choir sings monthly.

Our Sunday Contemporary  Service - 11:00 A. M.

One of the key goals chosen by our Vision 2000 process was to begin a new Contemporary Worship Service at First English.  Many people these days enjoy this more relaxed/high-energy style of worship music that comes with piano, keyboard, guitars & drums.  This service will be an exciting new ministry through which we can more completely meet the worship needs of some of our present members and also reach out to meet the needs of a broader number of people in our community.  We also believe that a contemporary worship option will act as a catalyst to our Youth Ministry, which is another key Vision 2000 goal.

The Church Council, early in 2001, established a Contemporary Worship Task Force.  This group has been working hard, visiting a number of different Contemporary Worship Services in mid-Ohio to best determine how we should conduct a top quality contemporary worship experience at First English Lutheran.  Another key milestone was reached when Council approved the hiring of a new Director of Contemporary Worship to design and facilitate the new service.  We are pleased to announce that Leah Hileman was recently hired to fill this position.  Now that Leah is onboard, it will take several months to pull it all together, but we are hopeful that this new service will be launched by mid-2002.  The new service will be at 11:00 a.m., and will be in the church basement (Undercroft). Come and Join Us!
